Introducing Isreal Cruz

Firebreak Defensible Space Services Founder

My name is Isreal. I am a Sonoma County resident born and raised. I became a first responder in 2015, initially working for a private ambulance company as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). During my employment as an EMT, I primarily performed Interfacility Transfers. After completing the Fall 2016 Firefighter 1 academy through Santa Rosa Junior College, I began my career as a firefighter with Bennett Valley Fire Protection District in January of 2017. I continued to work for Bennett Valley Fire Protection District until June of 2018. This is when I transitioned to working for CAL FIRE’s Mendocino Unit (MEU). I remained with CAL FIRE’s MEU for 5 years or until January of 2023. Since that time, I have not been affiliated with a fire department and am currently continuing my higher education at Sonoma State University studying business administration. In my years of being in the fire service, I witnessed the devastation wildfires can bring to communities. Although I was able to save many homes during wildfires, I was also forced to abandon neighborhoods due to the intensity of the fires. These experiences led me to my mission of helping Sonoma County residents and surrounding areas protect their homes from wildfires through defensible space.

From a long lineage of firefighters, Isreal Cruz has been helping protect California from wildfires for over 5+ years, serving on the frontlines throughout the state.

CERTIFIED NORTHERN CALIFORNIA NATURALIST

With a strong education in ecology, Isreal identifies and understands plants and animals and their ecological roles, habitats, and how they interact with each other.

NATIVE AMERICAN

With a deep generational and spiritual connection to the land, Isreal’s native heritage informs his strong emphases on respect and appreciation for preservation of our natural ecosystem and synergy with Mother Earth.

SONOMA LOCAL

Born and raised in Sonoma County, Isreal has had the blessing of enjoying the abundance of our land, and also endured the heartache caused by fire devastation to our community, providing him with an unmatched passion for creating defensible space.
